FAQ & troubleshooting

How do readers close an explanation? #

Click anywhere outside the popup, press Escape, or use the × in the corner. The explanation is read-only, so selecting text inside it won't trigger anything, so readers can freely highlight and copy it.

Which browsers are supported? #

The core flow (toggle on, select text, get an explanation) works in all modern desktop browsers.

How does it behave on mobile? #

The toggle button works on touch (it's a tap). Text-selection triggering is currently desktop-first: phone selection uses long-press handles that don't always fire the events the widget listens for, so highlight-to-explain can be unreliable on mobile. Improved touch support (selection-aware triggering and a tap-to-explain chip) is on the roadmap.

Honest status

If mobile is critical for you, treat selection-to-explain as a desktop feature for now. The toggle, popup rendering, and dashboard are fully responsive.

The widget isn't showing up #

Check, in order:

  1. The site is enabled (Overview tab).
  2. The page's origin is allowlisted (including www/non-www).
  3. The data-key in your snippet matches the current key (did you rotate it?).
  4. The script tag is present before </body> and not blocked by a content blocker.

What language are explanations in? #

Whatever you set under AI behavior. With auto, each explanation matches the language of the selected text.

Is visitor content stored? #

Only a short, truncated preview of the selected text is kept for the "most-explained selections" view, never the full page or unbounded content. See Analytics.
